Quaid-i-Azam University Aggregate / Merit Calculator
QAU gives the entry test no weight on these programmes — merit is Matric and HSSC Part-I only.
Guide
How the QAU admission merit is calculated
Quaid-i-Azam University is the odd one out among Pakistan's top universities. For undergraduate admission it gives the entry test no weight at all. Merit is a straight 30 to 70 split: 30% Matric and 70% HSSC Part-I. The QAU admissions page says so directly, stating that merit is calculated 'without giving any credit to the score(s) in Entry Test'.
It is HSSC Part-I specifically, not your full Intermediate result. That catches out applicants who enter their combined two-year total against a 1100 denominator; enter your Part-I marks against the Part-I total.
LLB is the one undergraduate programme where a test counts. There the split is Matric 20%, HSSC Part-I 50% and the HEC Law Admission Test 30%. Select it above if you are applying for LLB. The same 30:70 formula applies on both regular (regional quota) and self-finance seats, morning and evening.
The Formula
Merit = (MOM ÷ TM) × 30 + (MOF ÷ TM) × 70LLB = (MOM ÷ TM) × 20 + (MOF ÷ TM) × 50 + (LOM ÷ TM) × 30MOM = Matric marks · MOF = HSSC (Part-I) marks · LOM = LAT marksTM is the total marks of the relevant examination. This is QAU's own published formula, transcribed from its undergraduate merit calculator.
Worked Examples
Example 1: a standard BS applicant
Matric 950 out of 1100, HSSC Part-I 470 out of 550. No entry test needed.
| Matric percentage | (950 ÷ 1100) × 100 = 86.36% |
|---|---|
| Matric contribution (30%) | 86.36 × 0.30 = 25.91 |
| HSSC Part-I percentage | (470 ÷ 550) × 100 = 85.45% |
| HSSC contribution (70%) | 85.45 × 0.70 = 59.82 |
Example 2: LLB with the LAT
The same Matric and HSSC Part-I marks, plus a LAT score of 60 out of 100.
| Matric contribution (20%) | 86.36 × 0.20 = 17.27 |
|---|---|
| HSSC contribution (50%) | 85.45 × 0.50 = 42.73 |
| LAT contribution (30%) | 60.00 × 0.30 = 18.00 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my entry test score count at QAU?
Not for undergraduate programmes other than LLB. QAU's own page states merit is 30% Matric and 70% HSSC 'without giving any credit to the score(s) in Entry Test'. LLB is the exception, where the HEC LAT carries 30%.
Is it HSSC Part-I or my full Intermediate result?
Part-I. QAU's merit calculator defines MOF as 'Marks obtained in HSSC (Part-I) or equivalent'. Enter your Part-I marks against the Part-I total, not your combined two-year figure.
Is the formula different for self-finance seats?
No. QAU applies the same 30:70 merit calculation on regular (regional quota) seats, self-finance morning seats and self-finance evening seats. What differs is the fee and whether provincial quota applies, not the arithmetic.
What is the LAT and who needs it?
The Law Admission Test conducted by the Higher Education Commission. It is required for LLB admission and carries 30% of the LLB merit score. No other QAU undergraduate programme uses it.
Do O/A-level applicants use the same formula?
Yes. The QAU formula says 'Matric or equivalent' and 'HSSC (Part-I) or equivalent'. Enter your IBCC equivalence marks against their totals in the same two rows.
Does this merit score guarantee admission?
No. It computes your merit accurately; whether it clears the list depends on the discipline, the seat category and that year's applicants. Closing merit varies widely between departments at QAU.
